ARCHITECTURE - BOOKS A must read for designers of all disciplines. Botton has an uncanny and remarkable ability to write so eloquently the human experience in relation to our surroundings. A few pages in, Botton asks, what I think, is the very foundation of why architecture and/or design exists and why the disciplines are such an integral part of our everyday lives. Botton line…BUY THIS BOOK! “But sensitivity to architecture also has its more problematic aspects. If one room can alter how we feel, if our happiness can hang on the colour of the walls or the shape of a door, what will happen to us in most of the places we are forced to look at and inhabit? What will we experience in a house with prison-life windows, stained carpet tiles and plastic curtains?” Its a question that presents itself whenever we inhabit that cookie cutter apartment with pink based white walls and linoleum flooring. Or one of the many little boxes of suburbia. Its the death of the spirit for most of us…at least it is for me. Uninspiring Spaces Breed Boredom.
